.: A Summer Game

One morning I woke up just to realize that June was already here! My comforter, which almost never leaves my bed, was wrapped around my body and I was sweating like a pig. I could have opened the air condition of course, but I hate the noise it makes apart from the fact that it dries the air in my bedroom making me remember how it feels to be trapped for more than eight hours inside a traveling plane. But I am not worried; I will take my air condition dose from the ones that exist in my office, the restaurants I will visit, the busses I will ride, the shops I will enter, anywhere I will go or be during summer time.
So, as I am up from my bed, I am looking outside my apartment's window to discover that while I was still asleep a conspiracy has taken place and the sun that has been heating up the city for at least a couple of hours. I forgave the sun, after all that is its business, and decided to get ready to go to the office where I had to take care of a million things. Then I experienced the second shock of the day, since I have woken up thinking it was Monday or something, when in fact I did not have to be anywhere near the office because it was Saturday! I smiled to my alarm and immediately visited the shower, only to be frustrated five minutes I exited my comforting zone as I was beginning sweating again due to my neglect to open the air condition unit before getting in. As soon as I rectified my mistake, I sat down to open my computer and check my incoming mails, only to discover that friends have already been exchanging mails which have been forwarded also to me, mentioning their recreational plans for the weekend. I decided to participate, even later than usual, by calling my friends and arranging to meet them in our favorite coffee place for the first relaxing cup of the day.
To my surprise, when I entered the cafeteria half an hour later I found it packed with people and my friends squeezed into a corner table that was not designed to fit more than two. The six of us, after drinking that cup of iced hot blend of coffee, something one gets used of during summer time that waiters tend to forget you have placed an ice coffee order and bring your coffee when its ice cubes have totally disappeared, left the place and headed to the closest beach. I thought that at least there, I was going to relax and enjoy the recreational activities of my choice, such as beach volley, sea bikes or racquet playing. Well, the gods have probably forgotten I even existed, because as soon as we approached the sunny beach we were doomed to carry our stuff for more than fifteen minutes walking barefoot on the hot sand due to the hundreds of people that were already there. When we spotted a nice place on the beach not yet occupied by a family or a group of friends, we decided to enjoy the sea water and get our bodies exposed to the sun, apart from the curious eyes of our fellow-beach-visitors. The water was freezing, it was still June after all, and we made a pact that we would not force anyone inside, but instead everyone had to play one of those fun beach sports. I agreed immediately and after adjusting my body's temperature to the weather conditions of that day, I joined the rest of the gang for a match of beach soccer.
Don't get me wrong, but the whole experience sacked! We could not play the game, either because the people around were annoyed of our joyful screams, or because the beach was becoming so crowded that at some point we felt it was unfair for the people waiting to put down their beach equipment to occupy so much space just for a game. We sat down disappointed, and while nobody was speaking to each other, probably because there was always the risk of the other person listening, an idea came to my mind. I run to the car, took the game of Trivial out from the vehicle's front seat compartment and headed back to the beach. That day, we left the beach six hours later, feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and truly appreciative of the fact that we were inventive, we had each other and we were capable of learning, laughing and experiencing the summer or winter recreational activity of our choice to its fullness. Happy summer games!
