Dish Network offers satellite television receivers for everyone. They have basic receivers for the single television household on a budget as well as HDTV models with integrated Digital Video Recorders for the television enthusiast who absolutely has to have the best. The only problem is sorting out all of the choices. Dish Network's basic model, the Dish 301 is a great choice if you're on a budget or just getting into satellite television. It feeds crystal clear standard definition digital television signals to a single TV. It comes with the Dish Interactive Electronic Program Guide (EPG) which lets you see what's on all of your channels hours in advance. It provides program information telling you what each show is about, who stars in it, what it's rated, and will often give you an idea of the theme or plot of the program. The Electronic Program Guide also lets you make favorites list of the channels you watch most so you won't have to sort through all of the programming to find the show you want to watch. It's also fully integrated with Parental Control Locks which let parents limit the programs their children have access to. Parents can block out specific programs, entire channels, and programming with certain MPAA ratings so they can have peace of mind when their kids are watching TV without supervision. The Dish 301 also features manual and automatic even timers, one touch channel return, closed caption support, and on screen Caller ID capability. It comes with a remote control that can be programmed to control up to three other home entertainment components and gives you full access to the Electronic Program Guide.
The Dish 322 has all of the same features of the Dish 301, but with the ability to feed separate television signals to a second TV in another room. It does this with the incorporation of a second tuner which connects to a cable that runs to the second TV. The second tuner and it's TV are controlled by a special remote that can send a UHF signal through walls and furniture so it can be in the same room as the second TV instead of the same room as the receiver. This means that the remote that controls the primary television and the remote that controls the second television never interfere with each other and the viewers of each television can watch separate programs. It's kind of like having a receiver for each television combined into the same box for added convenience.
For even more flexibility and convenience in television watching, the Dish Player-DVR 625 has all of the dual television capability of the Dish 322, but with the addition of a Digital Video Recorder or DVR for short. A DVR can record one program while you watch another or two at once while you're out, just like a VCR. Where a DVR is much different from a VCR though is the fact that it can record up to 100 hours of programming on a hard drive so that you don't have to worry about video tapes. It's also fully integrated with the Electronic Program Guide (which can display program information up to 9 days in advance on this model!) making it easy and intuitive to program. Unlike an old fashioned VCR. The biggest difference between a DVR and a VCR though is that with a DVR you can pause and replay live television.
Dish Network's ViP622 is the most advanced model they offer. It has all of the features of the Dish Player-DVR 625, but with the additional ability to display High Definition Television (HDTV) and record up to 200 hours of programming.
More information is always available through Dish Network's customer support, but hopefully this guide has given you enough information to ask intelligent questions so you can sort out which receiver is right for you.
