When going about your business on the net, you can be promoting your site. There are several ways you can passively and purposefully use your signature file to passively generate traffic to your website.
Where can you use signature files? When ever you visit forums, online groups and use email leave your signature file behind. Your signature file should always be a part of your message.
If you aren’t visiting forums and groups you are missing out. There is much to learn by visiting these groups and forums. Go visit some today. Just search Google for groups or forums with your interest. Then go learn and post to passively generate traffic.
If you want to setup your email signature file, just check the help section of your email software or online program. The help file should give you all the details you need. If not, search the internet with your question and program name; you will likely find the answer and it just might be in a forum or group.
When you join a group or forum they usually have a place where you can setup your signature file. After you do this once it’s there and will always be added to your post at that group or forum. A word of caution though is in order, don’t overtly advertise your product, opportunity, or service in your signature file. We are talking about passively letting it be known that you represent something and have a place on the internet you would like people to visit. This is how you purposefully yet passively promote your website doing what you do each day online. This is passive traffic generation.
You don’t want or need people accusing you of just posting to get your signature file in the forum for the sake of backlinks and advertising. Most people want to learn something or solve some problem when they visit a forum. If you make a post that addresses one of these issues you are likely to get noticed. If what you say is helpful to the person they will likely visit your website if for no other reason then being curious about what you offer. This is what you are after—people visiting your site because they feel you offer something of value.
Let me just restate the above so it’s clear. The main purpose of a signature file should not be to make useless posts or blatant advertisements in forums and online groups just to promote your business, opportunity or service. One rule of prosperity is that by helping others, you will in return be helped. Provide information of value and people will appreciate your posts.
Since placing your signature file in groups and forums does provide backlinks, you will want to consider changing the link text from time to time so it appears natural. If you post in groups and forums that are relevant to your site and use link text that contains keywords from your site this will help your backlinks be even more valuable.
Don’t overlook the value of using a signature file as you travel the internet’s forums and groups. Let your signature file provide its passive traffic generating power to your online promotions.
