So... What is the SECRET to getting listed in the search engines? The answer is really simple. Don't get BANNED! Getting listed in the search engine requires quality content, good coding, careful selection of proper keywords and sprinkling those keyword into your content. Spamming is definately a NO, NO! By spamming, I mean creating tricks that are designed to FOOL the search engines and their developers into listing your site. NEVER add words to a page over and over and then make them the same color as the background. Never submit them over and over to the same engines. One submission is more than enough. Never use keywords that do not match the topic of your content. Stay away from FFA sites and link farms.

Now that you know what NOT to do... What do you do? First start with quality content. Then arrange that content to make sure that you have NO orphan pages. Orphan pages are pages that are not linked to your site in some manner. Alway add meta tags to each page. Meta Tags should include both keywords and a description. Make sure you add a descriptive title with keywords that match your content. Always use good formatted html. To see how your pages will look to the engines before you submit them, I would view them with a tool like the poodle predictor. This is a great tool that will show you what the engines will "see". I am certain their are other tools, but a quick validation is nice. The Poodle Predictor can be seen here >>> http://www.gritechnologies.com/tools/spider.go

Once you have your site running write a nice article about it and submit it to the article directories. This will create nice little back links that can raise your ranking in the engines. http://this-just-in.info is one such directory. They will also submit your article to over 150 directories with ONE CLICK!

If you don't feel like writing your own articles, use a tool that will create nicely formatted pages for you. There are some tools that will create up to 10,000 pages on any topic for you. These are good quality pages, properly formatted. You simply choose the topic and the work is done on the fly. One free tool is traffic blizzard >>> http://trafficblizzard.info

That;s about it. Remember, the key is not to get banned. Making good quality content is key. Formatting and structure are also important. Then get the word out using articles and article directories.
