Many webmasters who are new to SEO lose a lot of money when trying to optimize their sites. There are a number of reasons for this. Some webmasters simply have a lack of experience. When they look for a company to optimize their sites, they don't know what to look for. Others don't take the time to do research. They go with the first company they find, and instead of choosing the company based on their track record, they look at the hype and fancy design of a website.

The vast majority of webmasters go with SEO services because they do not have the time or expertise to optimize their own sites. When it is all said and done, many of these webmaster get burned. If the money involved is large enough, the webmaster may be forced out of business. This is a sad but accurate depiction of what happens online everyday. There seems to always be people who will fall for scams. And the dishonest SEO companies love it. They can take the money and either vanish, or wait for another unsuspecting victim.

To avoid these problems, there are a number of things you can do. First, you can educate yourself about SEO so that you can optimize your own site instead of paying someone else to do it for you. Second, you can join webmaster forums to find out which companies are the most reputable. The option that you choose is largely dependent on the amount of money you want to spend. If you are on a budget, teaching yourself SEO is a good idea, and can allow you to learn more about search engines. At the same time, this also requires you to have an abundance of time on your hands.

You will also need to have the patience to learn. Teaching yourself SEO can be very rewarding. There is very little risk involved. If you want to pay someone else to optimize your site, joining a forum is the best option. The webmasters at a forum tend to report companies that choose to rip off others. They are likely to point you to a company which is highly reputable.
