Choosing RAM (Random Access Memory) has become much simpler these days. Intel has adopted AMD's standard DDR memory for PC motherboards. DDR (Double Data Rate) RAM technology was originally developed by graphics engineers as video card memory. DDR is more efficient and affordable than the RDRAM (RAMBUS Dynamic Random Access Memory) that Intel was using.

Many years ago I developed a strategy for building a customers' home PC in a way that helps avoid future technical support problems and increases customer satisfaction. Part of that strategy is partitioning the hard drive in a way that can prevent data loss when Windows crashes. By creating multiple partitions, the operating system can be installed on it's own primary partition, allowing user created data to be saved on another partition.

To my amazement, there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about how these files are put on your computer and the effect they have on your computing experience. Some articles propose these files slow your computer to a crawl, others indicate they are memory hogs. While some suggest that these files only affect the MS Internet Explorer browser.
