1). Expat shopping
Sampling the local food in another country can be an eye opening and often rewarding experience for those expats who are willing to be open minded. Depending on what country you are living in as an expat, will depend on just how open minded you have to be.

There is a phrase that says "you can take the man out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the man.

2). Telephone calling cards
Following on from the recent article by our resident expat expert, concerning communication, we have decided to take a look at telephone calling cards.

If you are living as an expatriate, you will no doubt need to make international calls, probably to loved ones back home. Although the cost of telephone calls are coming down in price generally, it can still be a financial burden staying in touch with home.

3). Missing the comforts of home
Once you have made the brave step to a new life in a foreign country, inevitably, at some stage you will start missing home and the things that you were used to. Missing friends, family, traditions and the food are typically the most difficult things you will have to deal with as an expatriate.

Missing home and the various other things that were important to you before you left is normal and is part of the transition into a new country and new culture.

4). PC TV - Television from your PC and Internet
You may have seen the advertisements offering TV via your internet connection. Certainly with Google, it seems a popular subject for sponsored links.

We decided to check out what is actually involved with this TV via the Internet facility, and our findings were not quite what we expected.

After looking at a number of different websites offering these services, mostly for a one off, lifetime fee, we decided to buy from a site which looked professional.

5). Memories of Canada
Back in 2003, I had cause to make several visits to Canada, mainly to the eastern side, including Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec. Since the visits, I have a desire to make the move across the Atlantic and start a new life there.

As a boy, my memories of growing up in the UK are of hot summers and cold winters. Something that seems to have changed beyond all recognition now.

6). Using consolidation loans to solve credit problems
The consumer borrowing debt in the UK has reached records levels and more and more people are looking for ways to reduce and manage their credit.

Whether you are purchasing a new car, booking a holiday or going on a spending spree and are using credit to buy these items, there comes a time when you must pay the credit back. This is where a lot of people come unstuck and often end up in financial difficulties.

7). Low Cost Airline. Low service level?
Low cost airlines are now common place in our society and since there launch, traveling to foreign countries is now possible for the masses.

Easy Jet are considered to be the founders of low cost air travel, starting there operations from London Luton Airport. Over the years, Easy Jet has grown and now flies to many European countries. As Easy Jet grew, more and more airlines jumped on the bandwagon.

9). Long distance relationships
All you need is love. Somebody once said this, but what happens when your love is living hundreds, or even thousands of miles away in another country.

As the world is getting smaller, thanks mainly to air travel, it seems that more and more of us are looking further to find love. There are millions of people who are involved with long distance relationships, despite the preconceived notion that they just don't work.

10). UK Property Market
The price of houses in the UK saw an astronomical rise over the last few years, but for the last year or so, we have experienced a cooling off period in terms of house price inflation. Many prophets of doom were predicting a house price crash, last seen in the eighties, but the housing market has remained stable.

Although house sales are reportedly slow, the seems to be a sense of optimism that house prices may be on the way up again.

11). Eurostar or the plane?
Traveling by air has always given the people of this planet the ability to hop from one continent to another in a matter of hours. There is no doubt whatsoever, airline travel has not only changed the way we travel, but it has also impacted on our daily lives.
